40 Celebrities That Rocked Award-Worthy Silly, Spooky, And Sultry Halloween Costumes

As much as we loved free candy as kids, we were more eager to find the perfect costume. For one night, you can be whoever you want — dead or alive, fictional or historical, there are no limits. While adults don’t have the magic of trick-or-treating (we can just buy our own candy at the store), we can still enjoy dressing up. After all, why should the kids have all the fun?

And we’re not the only ones that feel that way. Celebrities, too, have just as much fun dressing up. Some take advantage of their deep pockets and buy the best costumes money can buy, others find the joy in homemade costumes. To wrap up the spooky season, we’ve compiled some of the best celeb costumes from Halloween 2022. Do you have any favorites?

Nick Viall and Natalie Joy as Roger Rabbit and Jessica Rabbit

Jessica Rabbit is one of the most desired cartoon characters in the world. Who wouldn’t want her in their arms? If someone says “yes,” you can be sure they’re lying. Voluptuous, sultry, and sexy, she is Roger Rabbit’s human toon wife.

The famous Rabbit couple first appeared in the 1981 novel by Gary K. Wolf, Who Censored Roger Rabbit. However, we think it’s safe to say that they’re more well-known for their portrayals in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. What do you think of their costumes? We think Natalie Joy’s is spot on!

Julien Solomita as Lord Farquaad

Shrek is one of the most successful non-Disney animated franchises of all time. The first film has become synonymous with memes, and even the lackluster sequels have made their rounds online. One of the most memorable characters from the series is, without a doubt, Lord Farquaad.

The Lilliputian ruler of Duloc is the perfect example of the Napoleon complex. The only thing lacking from Julien Solomita’s appearance is the big chin and the pageboy haircut. But we have to give him credit for using the camera angle to get the “height” right.

Jessica Alba and her friend as The Shining twins

There are plenty of good reasons why Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is included on the list of the top 100 movies of all time. Questionable ethics aside, it’s a cinematic masterpiece. Though Stephen King himself doesn’t agree with some of Kubrick’s changes, its cinematography is objectively beautifully executed.

There are many iconic scenes, but the ghost twins always seem to be a fan favorite when it comes to dressing up. Here is Jessica Alba and her friend dressed up as the twins in their matching blue dresses. They might be a little tall, but they nailed the costumes!

Kourtney and Travis as Chucky and Tiffany

Newlyweds Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker made sure they didn’t miss this year’s Halloween festivities. The two couldn’t be separated, so they went for a couples costume. This year’s Halloween, they came dressed as that hideous doll Chucky and Tiffany, Chucky’s bride.

Say what you will about them, but we’re here for their jaw-dropping costumes. It seems that they have found their match in each other and we are happy for them. Life is short, so dress up and get your party on!

Neil Patrick Harris and his family as Fast Food Mascots

We love that actor Neil Patrick Harris, and his entire family, are very game for Halloween. It took a lot of time and effort to get this fantastic shot. Between the splendid costumes and perfectly placed “props,” it’s an unforgettable group costume.

People on the ‘net agree that they always have the best costumes and that his family nails it every single Halloween. Hey, Mr. Harris, we love to dress up for Halloween, too, so we think we’re going to make excellent additions to the family.

Winnie Harlow as Ariel

Winnie Harlow is one of the top fashion models today, and she has even used her prominence and platform to de-stigmatize vitiligo. After gaining prominence in 2021 as one of the top contestants on America’s Next Top Model, she hasn’t looked back.

Ariel was the perfect choice for the model. She got her hair and eyebrows the perfect shade of red and even went to the effort of setting up a thematic backdrop for her photoshoot. We think she could give Halle Bailey, the future Ariel, a run for her money.

Christina Aguilera as Diva from The Fifth Element

Christina Aguilera isn’t one to shy away from controversy or intrigue. She revels in it and likes being the center of attention. Do you even remember her Dirrty days? The era was marked by extremely short skirts, tight leather corset dresses, and cargo pants with heels.

Here she is dressed as Diva from The Fifth Element. It’s stunning, but this year, she didn’t steal the spotlight with her costume. There’s another Diva on our list! Apparently, celebs don’t have a prom-inspired group chat to make sure they’re not wearing the same costume.

Ts Madison as Maleficent

Ts Madison is the first black trans woman to star and executive produce her very own reality series. Suffice it to say that the lady is accomplished. And she isn’t just adept at capturing real life on screen; her fictional characters are just as good.

She is powerful and independent, so it makes sense that she would choose an equally strong character for her Halloween costume. This year, she took inspiration from Angelina Jolie’s maleficent from the 2014 eponymous film. From the horns to the makeup and the lengthy nails; it’s perfect!

Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel as Catwoman and Batman

Why does this photo look awkward? First off, Miranda Kerr is a supermodel and has walked countless runways, so she knows how to work the camera. Her job description is literally to look good when a lens is pointed in her direction!

Her husband, however, is another story. Evan Spiegel is the CEO of Snap, which earned him the title of “youngest billionaire” in 2015. He isn’t used to being in the limelight, and that could be the reason why he looks like the most awkward Batman ever.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz as Romeo and Juliet

We hope you like couples costumes because celebs do, too. The recently married Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz dressed up as that of star-struck lovers, Romeo and Juliet — perfect for a young couple in love. They followed Baz Luhrmann’s classic, rather than the stage play.

This dreamy picture of the couple made a lot of people on the ‘net comment that a particular song of Taylor Swift’s got stuck in their heads after seeing it. Did the same thing happen to you? We just have one thing to say; this couple has high marks in the costume department.

Kerry Washington as Lionel Richie

Well; we’ll be damned! She looks exactly like the “Stuck on You” singer. Her impression is spot on, and if we didn’t know this was a Halloween picture, we might mistake it for the real album cover. Fun fact: Google Lens does.

Not only did she get the nod from people on the Internet, but she also got kudos from Lionel’s daughter, Nicole Richie. But Kerry didn’t stop with a picture-perfect outfit; she even performed a lip-synced rendition of the singer’s hit, “You Are.”

Hayley Kiyoko and Becca Tille as Velma and Daphne

Scooby-Doo and the gang inspired a generation to appreciate mystery and determination. Since there are five (including Scooby), they’re a popular group costume choice. But what do you do if you fall short of manpower like Hayley and Becca did? You dress up as Velma and Daphne, of course!

Becca Tilley pulled out all the stops with her look; we are jealous of her purple dress and fiery, red hair. Hayley’s Velma look is also spot on. This cute couple looks great together, both when dressed as themselves or as other people.

Ashton Kutcher as a Boy Scout

Ashton Kutcher reached the height of popularity with his role as Kelso in That 70’s Show. Kelso is one of the five male leads of the show, but he is one of the most memorable because he was known and accepted as the “local idiot.”

But for this year’s Halloween, he is dressed as someone more respectful — a Boy Scout. While he always looks dapper, his uniform looks a bit sad. Perhaps if he had more badges to show off, the outfit would look perkier. Which patches do you think he deserves?

Eric André as Today’s Morning News Anchor, Hoda Kotb

Comedian and actor Eric André knows a lot of things about making hilarious quips and sending people into fits of laughter. After all, he earns his livelihood that way, and of course, he’s not going to miss an opportunity in one of the year’s biggest celebrations.

For this year, he decided to impersonate a real person. He chose none other than Today’s Morning News anchor, Hoda Kotb. André got the look right, and he could be mistaken for her. Well, except for one thing — the facial hair he didn’t shave.

Rob Gronkowski as Billy the Puppet from Saw

One of the most sinister movie characters in the world is Billy the Puppet from the Saw franchise. The disturbing puppet was used by John “Jigsaw” Kramer to communicate with his victims — or, as he called them, test subjects — during their “challenges.”

People were afraid of the puppet, and rightfully so; Here is retired football star Rob Gronkowski dressed as the evil puppet. Do you think you can do better? If you have your own Billy costume, share it. Maybe you’ll go viral for one-upping the sports star.

Kelly Rowland as Catwoman

Catwoman seems to be a very popular Halloween costume. Is it because she is sexy and feisty, and she doesn’t let men tell her what to do? Or is it because of her skintight leather outfit? We might never get the answer to that question.

Here is singer Kelly Rowland’s sultry take on the popular superhero, specifically Michelle Pfeiffer’s stitched-up version from Batman Returns. What do you think? Doesn’t this picture just scream “watch out Batman, those jewels are mine”? We wonder who dressed up as her Batman this year…

Kylie Jenner as The Wicked Witch of the West

If you thought that Kylie Jenner would shy away from dressing up for Halloween, you’ve got it all wrong. Kylie likes being in the limelight, dressing sexy, and being talked about, so it’s a given that she’s gonna give it her all for Halloween.

This year, she decided to dress up as the Wicked Witch of the West, but we’re a little confused with this photo, to be honest. What is a witch doing in a bathtub with a skeleton? What could all this mean? Leave it to Kylie to make things controversial.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as the Energizer Bunny

Ramakrishnan isn’t a household name just yet, but we’re sure she’ll be a superstar in no time. The 21-year-old actress began her acting career only two years ago as a star in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, and she already has a Disney character listed on her IMDb credits.

For her costume, Ramakrishnan looked to commercial icons for inspiration. Food franchises dominate the industry with mascots, but the Energizer Bunny is just as much of a classic. Just like the endlessly powered bunny, we’re sure that Ramakrishnan has a long career ahead of her.

Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams as Gomez and Morticia Addams

Did you know that the Addams Family was created by a man named Charles Addams, and that they were first comic characters? The family originally appeared in a series of more than a hundred unrelated single-panel cartoons, but their live-action characters are now more recognizable.

This year, Sara Hyland and her husband Wells Adams decided to dress up as the loving couple Morticia and Gomez Addams. But they didn’t stop there. They even got their lovable doggos involved and made props for Cousin Itt and Thing!

Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae as Princess Peach and Mario

When you nail the great fashion looks as the star of the wildly successful Netflix limited series, The Queen’s Gambit, what do you dress up as for Halloween? Simple, you go to the annual Halloween party dressed as Princess Peach.

This leaves room for your significant other to show up as Mario, the plumber whose fate is to rescue the damsel in distress from the evil Bowser. Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae might have gone for store-bought costumes, but we’re sure they nailed the personas at the party.

Jojo Siwa as a young Draco Malfoy

Who would have thought that Jojo Siwa could give actor Tom Felton a run for his money as the villainous Draco Malfoy from the world-famous Harry Potter series? If you need further proof that the young star is talented, consider this image as an addition to the mountain of evidence.

People on the internet commented that they had to look twice to ensure that their eyes weren’t deceiving them and that it wasn’t the actor Tom Felton who gave life to the character. Were you equally impressed by Jojo Siwa’s Halloween game?

Cole Sprouse as a conjoined twin

Identical twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse made it big when they starred as the titular characters in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Though it’s hard to make a name for yourself in Hollywood, especially when you’re a twin, the Sprouse brothers have succeeded.

But, as twins, they’ll always be attached to each other. Cole leaned into that with his costume this year. We’re not even halfway through our list, but we think he won this year’s costume contest. It’s hard to top that level of creativity!

Rebel Wilson and her friends as Barbie Dolls

Leave it to Rebel Wilson to think out of the box, or in this case, in the box for terrific Halloween ideas. With her friends in tow, the actress decided to dress up as Barbie. She put together a full set, including a hunky Ken doll. Don’t they look adorable in their packaging?

Wilson is outstanding for her advocacy of normalizing body types, which is why we love her decision to tackle one of the most damaging icons of body standards. Fun fact: the proportions of a Barbie doll aren’t accurate because she has no room for her organs!

Eugene Lee Yang as Eddie Munson from Stranger Things

Well, what would Halloween be without a little cameo of characters from the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, right? Throughout the four seasons, the show has spawned various out-of-this-world and scary monsters and unforgettable characters, one of which is Eddie.

Eddie Munson was the leader of the Hellfire Club and a friend and somewhat the role model of Dustin Henderson. Here is Eugene Lee Yang as the popular TV character, complete with his punk rock mullet. Did he do the character justice?

Shakira as Wonder Woman

Throughout the years, the world of comic superheroes has added more and more female characters, but one of the OG is Wonder Woman. The princess first appeared in 1941 and has since become an icon for female empowerment and independence.

The latest iteration of the Justice League founding member is Gal Gadot in the DCEU. With her long history as a powerful female icon, she’s a popular character choice for women of all ages, especially little girls, and even Colombian singer Shakira.

Joe Jonas as Flo from Progressive

You may not always find the Jonas Brothers funny, but you have got to admit that this is one of the most hilarious Halloween costumes. Joe’s take on Flo the Progressive Lady is funny on all levels. This simple yet silly costume made our day!

We love that he made an effort to put together an accurate costume, complete with a wig and blue headband, but kept his beard. This just goes to show that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on Halloween costumes; you just need plenty of creativity.

Lester Holt as News Hound

A news hound is defined as an aggressive journalist, so it only makes sense that Lester Holt, an American journalist and news anchor, dressed up as a news hound for Halloween. It fits his job and maybe even his personality, but we can’t say for sure about the latter.

However, a few people on the internet pointed out that he looked more like McGruff the Crime Dog who has a scent for crime and wrongdoings and he’s ready to take a bite out of them. What did you think he was when you first saw his outfit?

Halle Bailey as a Na’vi from Avatar

Bailey is getting ready to dress up as Ariel from The Little Mermaid, so she used Halloween as her chance to mix up her costume. For this year’s festivities, the actress unofficially auditioned for the 2024 Avatar film. We’re not the only ones who love her costume…

The official Avatar Twitter account re-Tweeted her photoshoot! Bailey rocked the look, but she’s not the only one who gets credit for this costume. Whoever did her makeup, did a splendid job. Let’s face it, Halle is a stunner with or without makeup.

Jennifer Garner as a ghost

No list of Haloween costumes would be complete without at least one ghost, right? Jennifer Garner filled that gap on our list with her haunting ghost bride costume. Actually, she gave us two outfits this year, but this one’s our favorite.

She even posted a video on her Instagram with her lip-syncing to “Me Against the Music” by Britney Spears. She made sure to let everyone know who did her makeup — Fiona Stiles. Though, we think the real star of the video is her dog!

Tyga as E.T.

If we didn’t know who posted this picture on their Instagram, we wouldn’t have guessed that it was Tyga underneath the costume. Would you have known it was him? There’s nothing in the picture that could have given the rapper away.

However, this is a store-bought mask and gloves so aside from wearing those, there wasn’t much of an effort here, and that’s why a lot of people didn’t like it very much. Nothing creative and nothing artistic; it’s plain and dull for most people.

Janelle Monáe as Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element

The American rapper, singer, and actress is not only accomplished in her field, with eight Grammy nominations, but she is a good show[wo]man. Tell us honestly, did you even recognize her beneath all the makeup? Just like Tyga, we’d be clueless without the IG credits.

So, now that we’ve seen two Divas, who do you think wore it better? Aguilera went more sultry with her photoshoot, but Monae made sure to show off more of the character’s costume. We can’t pick favorites. They’re both so good!

Winnie Harlow and Shawn Mendes as Nefertiti and Indiana Jones

Winnie Harlow is so prominent on social media these days that she has two entries on this list — a solo costume and another with her boyfriend, Shawn Mendes. We’re honestly surprised that the couple didn’t go for a couples costume. But this picture is enough to prove that they’re in a relationship.

Their smiles tell us all we need to know. As much as we would have loved to see a paired costume, we can’t complain since they gave us two great single outfits. Winnie Harlow, this time around, decided to dress up as the Queen of the Nile, Nefertiti while Shawn Mendes decided to be the swashbuckling Indiana Jones.

Vanessa Hudgens as the Black Swan from Black Swan

Hudgens got her first big break as Gabriella in High School Musical. Gabriella is a soft-spoken genius, so it took Hudgens a while to break away from that persona. Perhaps that shadow still follows her because the actress went for a provocative costume this year.

Draped in a feathery dress, Hudgens embodied the black swan from the 2010 horror film. We don’t know if Hudgens is a ballet dancer, but we’d love to see her give it a go in that costume. Seriously, whoever put together her costume is a talented designer.

Rachel Zegler as Vivian Ward

Did you know that the movie Pretty Woman originally had a much darker storyline? It wasn’t as nice as the movie we have come to know and love. Why are we discussing this? Because as you see in the photo below, actress Rachel Zegler decided to dress up as Vivian Ward.

However, it seems that she’s wearing the wrong kind of boots because in the movie Vivian was wearing thigh-high boots with spiked heels. Some people also pointed out that her face looks more like Kit instead of Vivian and now we can’t get that out of our heads.

Lance Bass and Michael Turchin as Green Lantern and Superman

Lance Bass is not one to shy away from parties. He’s dressed up as some pretty interesting characters in the past, and for this year, he decided to be the Green Lantern. And the DC superhero didn’t go to the party alone.

Here he is with his husband, Michael Turchin, who also dressed up as Superman. Who do you think did it better, Lance Bass or his other half? We’d say it’s a tie between these two dapper gentlemen. We feel much safer knowing they’re here to save the day.

Mindy Kaling as Velma

This photo is further proof that Scooby-Doo and his gang rule Halloween. Tell us, how many people do you see each year dressed as the cowardly dog and his crime-solving crew? Too many to count, right? Here is Mindy Kaling letting her inner Velma out.

Jinkies! Velma Dinkley’s signature outfit is the baggy orange turtleneck sweater, short red pleated skirt, and the pair of square eyeglasses she often loses. How did Mindy compare to the other Velmas on this list and those you’ve seen on your street?

Stephen Amell and Cassandra Jean Amell as Wilson and Chuck Noland

The survival drama Cast Away starring Tom Hanks was released in December 2000 and was the third-highest-grossing film of the year. We imagine that they didn’t spend much on the cast as it was virtually just Tom Hanks and his volleyball for most of the movie.

Recreating Chuck Noland and his beloved ball, Wilson, are Stephen Amell and Cassandra Jean Amell. Cassandra even put on a fake beard for the event, and we have to say that the couple looked great! Some even pointed out that Cass looked great in a beard.

Rickey Thompson as Grace Jones

People swore that they thought it was actually Grace Jones for a hot second and we hate to disappoint them, but it’s actually Rickey Thompson posing as Grace Jones. That’s how great the makeup and the costume are; they make you think he’s a completely different person.

The American actor, comedian, and Internet personality has a diva in him and could give the veteran model a run for her money. He slayed the look, and he was perfect in the leather pants. Pull up to the bumper baby!

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel as the Home Alone bandits

Christmas celebrations seem to start earlier with every passing year. They even have Halloween versions of peppermint bark and gingerbread houses. Justin Timberlake and Jessia Biel leaned into the trend and dressed up as two characters from a Christmas classic, Home Alone.

Image courtesy of justintimberlake and jessicabiel/Instagram

Rather than dressing up as the precocious protagonist, the couple decided to dress up as the thieves that get knocked on their butts every five minutes. We especially love the perfect paint on Justin’s face in the shape of an iron, and Jessica went all out with the glue and feathers.

Heidi Klum as a Worm

There’s a good reason why Heidi Klum has earned the title of “Queen of Halloween.” The gal goes all out when it comes to spooky and clean fun. We have seen her as Jessica Rabbit, Lady Godiva, and Betty Boop. Cleopatra, the Hindu goddess Kali, a vampire, an alien, a robot, and a werewolf have also made their appearance.

This year she pulled out all the stops and came dressed as a worm. Yes, you read that right! It took her more than 10 hours to transform into a worm and her husband Tom Kaulitz joined the fun and came dressed as a fisherman who had Heidi hooked to his line.
