40 Celebrities That Rocked Award-Worthy Silly, Spooky, And Sultry Halloween Costumes

As much as we loved free candy as kids, we were more eager to find the perfect costume. For one night, you can be whoever you want — dead or alive, fictional or historical, there are no limits. While adults don’t have the magic of trick-or-treating (we can just buy our own candy at the store), we can still enjoy dressing up. After all, why should the kids have all the fun?

And we’re not the only ones that feel that way. Celebrities, too, have just as much fun dressing up. Some take advantage of their deep pockets and buy the best costumes money can buy, others find the joy in homemade costumes. Jessica Rabbit is one of the most desired cartoon characters in the world. Who wouldn’t want her in their arms? If someone says “yes,” you can be sure they’re lying. Voluptuous, sultry, and sexy, she is Roger Rabbit’s human toon wife.

The famous Rabbit couple first appeared in the 1981 novel by Gary K. Wolf, Who Censored Roger Rabbit. However, we think it’s safe to say that they’re more well-known for their portrayals in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. What do you think of their costumes? We think Natalie Joy’s is spot on!

Shrek is one of the most successful non-Disney animated franchises of all time. The first film has become synonymous with memes, and even the lackluster sequels have made their rounds online. One of the most memorable characters from the series is, without a doubt, Lord Farquaad.

The Lilliputian ruler of Duloc is the perfect example of the Napoleon complex. The only thing lacking from Julien Solomita’s appearance is the big chin and the pageboy haircut. But we have to give him credit for using the camera angle to get the “height” right.

Say what you will about them, but we’re here for their jaw-dropping costumes. It seems that they have found their match in each other and we are happy for them. Life is short, so dress up and get your party on!

We love that actor Neil Patrick Harris, and his entire family, are very game for Halloween. It took a lot of time and effort to get this fantastic shot. Between the splendid costumes and perfectly placed “props,” it’s an unforgettable group costume.

People on the ‘net agree that they always have the best costumes and that his family nails it every single Halloween. Hey, Mr. Harris, we love to dress up for Halloween, too, so we think we’re going to make excellent additions to the family.

Winnie Harlow as Ariel

Winnie Harlow is one of the top fashion models today, and she has even used her prominence and platform to de-stigmatize vitiligo. After gaining prominence in 2021 as one of the top contestants on America’s Next Top Model, she hasn’t looked back.

Ariel was the perfect choice for the model. She got her hair and eyebrows the perfect shade of red and even went to the effort of setting up a thematic backdrop for her photoshoot. We think she could give Halle Bailey, the future Ariel, a run for her money.

Christina Aguilera isn’t one to shy away from controversy or intrigue. She revels in it and likes being the center of attention. Do you even remember her Dirrty days? The era was marked by extremely short skirts, tight leather corset dresses, and cargo pants with heels.

Wilson is outstanding for her advocacy of normalizing body types, which is why we love her decision to tackle one of the most damaging icons of body standards. Fun fact: the proportions of a Barbie doll aren’t accurate because she has no room for her organs!

Well, what would Halloween be without a little cameo of characters from the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, right? Throughout the four seasons, the show has spawned various out-of-this-world and scary monsters and unforgettable characters, one of which is Eddie.

You may not always find the Jonas Brothers funny, but you have got to admit that this is one of the most hilarious Halloween costumes. Joe’s take on Flo the Progressive Lady is funny on all levels. This simple yet silly costume made our day!

We love that he made an effort to put together an accurate costume, complete with a wig and blue headband, but kept his beard. This just goes to show that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on Halloween costumes; you just need plenty of creativity.

A news hound is defined as an aggressive journalist, so it only makes sense that Lester Holt, an American journalist and news anchor, dressed up as a news hound for Halloween. It fits his job and maybe even his personality, but we can’t say for sure about the latter.

However, a few people on the internet pointed out that he looked more like McGruff the Crime Dog who has a scent for crime and wrongdoings and he’s ready to take a bite out of them. What did you think he was when you first saw his outfit?

Bailey is getting ready to dress up as Ariel from The Little Mermaid, so she used Halloween as her chance to mix up her costume. For this year’s festivities, the actress unofficially auditioned for the 2024 Avatar film. We’re not the only ones who love her costume…

The official Avatar Twitter account re-Tweeted her photoshoot! Bailey rocked the look, but she’s not the only one who gets credit for this costume. Whoever did her makeup, did a splendid job. Let’s face it, Halle is a stunner with or without makeup.

No list of Haloween costumes would be complete without at least one ghost, right? Jennifer Garner filled that gap on our list with her haunting ghost bride costume. Actually, she gave us two outfits this year, but this one’s our favorite.

She even posted a video on her Instagram with her lip-syncing to “Me Against the Music” by Britney Spears. She made sure to let everyone know who did her makeup — Fiona Stiles. Though, we think the real star of the video is her dog!

Tyga as E.T.

If we didn’t know who posted this picture on their Instagram, we wouldn’t have guessed that it was Tyga underneath the costume. Would you have known it was him? There’s nothing in the picture that could have given the rapper away.

However, this is a store-bought mask and gloves so aside from wearing those, there wasn’t much of an effort here, and that’s why a lot of people didn’t like it very much. Nothing creative and nothing artistic; it’s plain and dull for most people.

Janelle Monáe as Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element

The American rapper, singer, and actress is not only accomplished in her field, with eight Grammy nominations, but she is a good show[wo]man. Tell us honestly, did you even recognize her beneath all the makeup? Just like Tyga, we’d be clueless without the IG credits.

So, now that we’ve seen two Divas, who do you think wore it better? Aguilera went more sultry with her photoshoot, but Monae made sure to show off more of the character’s costume. We can’t pick favorites. They’re both so good!

Winnie Harlow is so prominent on social media these days that she has two entries on this list — a solo costume and another with her boyfriend, Shawn Mendes. We’re honestly surprised that the couple didn’t go for a couples costume. But this picture is enough to prove that they’re in a relationship.

Their smiles tell us all we need to know. As much as we would have loved to see a paired costume, we can’t complain since they gave us two great single outfits. Winnie Harlow, this time around, decided to dress up as the Queen of the Nile, Nefertiti while Shawn Mendes decided to be the swashbuckling Indiana Jones.

Hudgens got her first big break as Gabriella in High School Musical. Gabriella is a soft-spoken genius, so it took Hudgens a while to break away from that persona. Perhaps that shadow still follows her because the actress went for a provocative costume this year.

Draped in a feathery dress, Hudgens embodied the black swan from the 2010 horror film. We don’t know if Hudgens is a ballet dancer, but we’d love to see her give it a go in that costume. Seriously, whoever put together her costume is a talented designer.

Did you know that the movie Pretty Woman originally had a much darker storyline? It wasn’t as nice as the movie we have come to know and love. Why are we discussing this? Because as you see in the photo below, actress Rachel Zegler decided to dress up as Vivian Ward.

However, it seems that she’s wearing the wrong kind of boots because in the movie Vivian was wearing thigh-high boots with spiked heels. Some people also pointed out that her face looks more like Kit instead of Vivian and now we can’t get that out of our heads.

Lance Bass and Michael Turchin as Green Lantern and Superman

Lance Bass is not one to shy away from parties. He’s dressed up as some pretty interesting characters in the past, and for this year, he decided to be the Green Lantern. And the DC superhero didn’t go to the party alone.

Here he is with his husband, Michael Turchin, who also dressed up as Superman. Who do you think did it better, Lance Bass or his other half? We’d say it’s a tie between these two dapper gentlemen. We feel much safer knowing they’re here to save the day.

People swore that they thought it was actually Grace Jones for a hot second and we hate to disappoint them, but it’s actually Rickey Thompson posing as Grace Jones. That’s how great the makeup and the costume are; they make you think he’s a completely different person.

The American actor, comedian, and Internet personality has a diva in him and could give the veteran model a run for her money. He slayed the look, and he was perfect in the leather pants. Pull up to the bumper baby!

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel as the Home Alone bandits

Christmas celebrations seem to start earlier with every passing year. They even have Halloween versions of peppermint bark and gingerbread houses. Justin Timberlake and Jessia Biel leaned into the trend and dressed up as two characters from a Christmas classic, Home Alone.

Rather than dressing up as the precocious protagonist, the couple decided to dress up as the thieves that get knocked on their butts every five minutes. We especially love the perfect paint on Justin’s face in the shape of an iron, and Jessica went all out with the glue and feathers.

There’s a good reason why Heidi Klum has earned the title of “Queen of Halloween.” The gal goes all out when it comes to spooky and clean fun. We have seen her as Jessica Rabbit, Lady Godiva, and Betty Boop. Cleopatra, the Hindu goddess Kali, a vampire, an alien, a robot, and a werewolf have also made their appearance.

This year she pulled out all the stops and came dressed as a worm. Yes, you read that right! It took her more than 10 hours to transform into a worm and her husband Tom Kaulitz joined the fun and came dressed as a fisherman who had Heidi hooked to his line.
